15 Lessons I Learned Through ‘Suits’

A large population of viewers of the TV series, SUITS claimed to have loved the TV series. It sure had a lot to teach its viewers and wasn’t just for entertainment purposes, unlike current shows airing.

Instead, SUITS teaches us how to handle both our corporate and personal lives at the same time. It was a delightful show, and even after the show has been canceled, it still lives on in our minds and hearts.

SUITS, an exciting TV show, started airing on the 23rd of June, 2011. It had a total of nine seasons, and each season just seemed to never run out of ideas to keep the viewers captivated.

The series is known to educate both the young and old and was greatly enjoyed by all. Most of the viewers learned one or two things from the show and have even gone as far as applying it to their daily life. So, what exactly did you learn from the series? Did you also enjoy it?

15 Business Lessons from Suits

The world of law and business can be a murky one, but “SUITS” (the TV show) is here to make it all clear. In the following blog post, we’ll explore some of the most important lessons this popular drama has taught us about business.

1. Improve your argument

The scriptwriters got this quote from Harvey Specter, a badass former corporate lawyer. He is known for his constant quotes in the popular series. Although, this particular quote was said by a South African Anglican Archbishop and theologist, Desmond Tutu.

He was an anti-apartheid and human rights activist and even won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1984.

2. There’s always a choice

Sometimes, you feel like you are at a dead end and don’t know what to do. When you find yourself confused and helpless in any situation, try to come up with something, anything.

Harvey Specter made that clear when he said, “when someone points a gun at your face, you take the gun, or you pull out a bigger one, or you call their bluff, or you do any one of a hundred and forty-six other things.” This tells us how many choices we have.

3. Mistakes are Fine

We are bound to make mistakes, and the moment we realize that and go with the flow, life might be better. We learned in this series that Mike Ross did a great job at admitting he was wrong and always seeking forgiveness instead of playing the victim.

4. Be One of a Kind

Many experienced people out there can do what you do. However, this doesn’t mean you should settle for less or stay where you are not wanted.

People can do your job, of course, but they can’t be you because you are unique in your way. If you’re currently in a place where you don’t feel comfortable or where you can’t be yourself, then you’re not where you’re supposed to be.

5. Mentorship is Essential

No matter how capable you think you are, you need a mentor. A mentor would properly guide you and scold you when you begin to go astray. They are quite crucial in any line of profession you go into. Having a mentor like Harvey Specter opened Mike Ross’ eye to the real world.

6. Appearance Matters a Lot

In as much as the saying “Do not judge a book by its cover” goes, we find ourselves guilty of this. Your first appearance matters, and it should be one to be remembered and appreciated at least.

SUITS makes us realize how everybody at work is highly respected because of the way they appear. No matter where you find yourself, try to look good first to be highly considered and respected whatever comes out of your mouth.

7. Never do Something You’re Going to Regret.

If you think you can do something wicked and get away with it, you’re kidding yourself. It might surface when you least expect it and when you’ve moved on with your life.

The guilt it comes with is also overbearing, so you’ve just got to avoid unethical behavior and be patient with life.

8. Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

Look where no one else would look, and you’ll find out how successful it might turn out. Mike Ross had the same mindset and always managed to surprise his opponents and throw them off guard.

9. Always Find A Way to Get  Back

Situations shouldn’t leave you helpless, or instead, you shouldn’t make them leave you vulnerable. When you find yourself in a state of utter confusion and lost hope, try to bring up different ways to get rid of that situation. Be like Harvey; face your darkest fears in your way.

10. Convince People Better

Once you’re unable to find a solution to someone’s problems, try your best to look for other means to help out. Putting in effort for that course is enough, and it shows how willing you are to help.

11. Be Confident!

Even when you have absolutely no idea of how to go about something, go out there. You can’t tell if you go with the flow. We don’t know what the outcome might be or what is bound to happen, but we go about faking it till we eventually make it.

12. Have Fun and Enjoy the Ride

Mike Ross tried his best to handle any situation that life presented him with. Life is full of ups and downs, so let’s learn to get back stronger and better like Mike when we’re at the lows in life. And, when we’re at our highs, let’s know to celebrate, even if it’s just the tiny wins.

13. Love thyself

That should be your priority; loving yourself. Before you think of giving it all to someone else, be it your partner or colleague, or family member, think about yourself first of all. It is not stingy or selfish, but you’re just trying to build confidence in yourself, and that’s more important than anything else.

14. Get Straight to the Point

The SUITS cast showed us that not everything needs to be done in an office. Skipping meetings and just going straight to the point turns out to be more productive.

15. Be a Team Player

Loyalty and honesty are key features we noticed with Harvey Specter’s crew. Once one person is betrayed, two persons are automatically betrayed. If you’re not so close to your colleagues, it is expected that loyalty should at least exist among you all.

SUITS teaches us a lot of things we didn’t at school or our different homes. It gives us a different view of life and sees it as a better shot at making things suitable with yourself. Each character in SUITS just had a particular way of teaching us things and reaching out to us in ways we couldn’t even comprehend, and it sure was for the best.
