7 Crazy Ways Johnny Depp Blew Through His Fortune

Pirates of the Caribbean actor Johnny Depp has surely endured quite a lot of suffering in the past few years. Besides the fact that he’s cropped up in a string of box office duds, Depp has faced increased perusal over his personal life.

Depp reportedly lost $650 million and blew up nearly half of his fortune. Although he’s surely unlikely to go broke anytime soon, at the rate he’s lost so much many, he may have to do something unthinkable— perhaps, a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie? Well, we can never know.

But how did Johnny Depp blow through his massive fortune?

Let’s take a closer look at the crazy ways Captain Jack Sparrow slurps his wealth like a bottle of wine.

1. Poor Choice of Management Company

The people who manage your finances are vital in making it grow. If the team you’ve got isn’t efficient or trustworthy, you might end up hurting your overall wealth in the long run. The primary reason why Depp has lost his $650 fortune is simply because of his poor choice of a management company.

In London’s Royal Courts of Justine, Depp has alleged that the $650 million fortune that he acquired from movies has gone missing thanks to the financial management group called The Management Company (TMG), Depp’s long-time manager Joel Mendel, and his brother Robert.

Depp was too late to discover that his tax obligations weren’t getting paid for about 17 years. Hence, his taxes accumulated, owing to the internal revenue services (IRS) taxes amounting to $100 million.

The Management Company (TMG) was sued for negligence, breach of duty, and fraud. The lawsuit against TMG also cites that Depp’s sister was given $7 million without his consent. Not to mention that his personal assistant Nathan Holmes was also granted $750,000 without Depp’s knowledge.

2. He Was Overzealous

Our Captain Jack Sparrow seems overzealous in taking care of his family members. Tending to family members isn’t a bad thing, but you could end up in dire financial standing if you give too much.

Depp has purchased a farm in Lexington, Kentucky, for his mother, but his sister, her husband, and child made the property their home too. According to tittle-tattles, Depp actually went ahead to employ his sister’s family to take care of the farm. This means Depp pays them out of his pocket.

Despite all of Johnny’s efforts to provide for everything, his family members end up overspending, and he was the one to sort things out. Aside from their overspending, Johnny had to handle his mother’s medical expenses when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2013.

Johnny rented a $30,000 a month residence in Los Angeles to get her closer to his treatment. His mother got better soon and moved back to Kentucky, but since he got the residence in Los Angeles for lease, he has to pay for it to continue to renew.

3. Paying Amber Heard $7 Million in Divorces Settlement

In 2016, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard agreed on a divorce settlement of $7 million. The couple had been crossing swords in court in a bitter divorce row that lasted for almost a year.

After the court had settled the decision, Johnny became $7 million poorer.

4. Expensive Separation from Vanessa Paradis

Aside from Amber Heard, Johnny’s separation from Vanessa has also cost him a lot of fortune. Vanessa was Johnny’s wife before Amber. She was the mother of Johnny’s two children and his 14-year-long partner.

The couple split up in 2012 with a settlement of $125 million, but this was a relief for Depp since the couple isn’t truly married. If the two had been married legally, Depp would have to give half of all his wealth to Vanessa.

But there’s more to the hundred million settlement— Johnny also has to give money for alimony and child support. Moreover, Johnny bought Vanessa a residence worth $4.5 million.

5. Wild Spending

It’s no secret that Depp has spending issues. The way he indulges in extravagance and luxuries is to the highest level, which greatly contributed to the decline of his hard-earned fortune.

Johnny owns a yacht worth $18 million with a monthly maintenance cost of $350,000 every month. He is also known for his extravagant gifts. In fact, there are talks that he bought a $400,000 diamond cuff for Amber Heard back when they were together. They also splurge a hefty $7,000 for a couch just to keep up with the Kardashians.

6. Pricey Booze and Hash

Reportedly, Depp has a perpetual reservoir of wine, which he confessed was expensive. According to The Management Company (TMC) spends about $30,000 on his beloved wine every month. However, Johnny contradicted TMC’s statement and said he was spending much more on wine.

7. Numerous Staff Members

Johnny keeps a lot of people around him. He had a huge team by his side, which cost him a significant amount of his $650 million lost wealth.

TMC’s lawsuit against the popular Jack Sparrow actor claimed that he has about 40 full-time employees, which costs him around $300,000 a month. Furthermore, aside from the staff he got for himself, he also consumes $150,000 every month on his family’s security and another $200,000 splurge for his private jet transport monthly.

Johnny’s most excessive splurge on staff is paying $1.2 million to keep a doctor on call.
