9 Signs You Are Wasting Your Life

We only got one shot to live life, so every time we have is precious. Yet, some people waste their time that is merely passing instead of making the most out of it. Do you think you’re one of them?

Though it may seem as if you have a long life to live, you actually only have a short moment to accomplish things you want to achieve in life. Time passes in a flash, and there are blink-and-you-miss-them moments that you might not get to experience once you lose the opportunity.

Your goal in life is to do the things that make your heart race a beat, get your blood flowing, and otherwise is not good enough. If you are not on the bright and colorful side of life, perhaps, you’re not going the right way.

By the end of this article, you’ll realize whether you’re living a good life or you’re wasting your life on things that are against your benefit. Here’s a checklist, which you can use to benchmark if you’re doing pretty well:

You focus too much on meaningless things

Ponder on how you spend your day. Where do you exhaust most of your time? Are you spending it playing video games? Watching Netflix series all day long? Drinking with your friends every night? Scrolling through your social media account? If so, evaluate what you benefit from this routine and make changes accordingly.

Things that don’t help in laying a good foundation for your future are meaningless. Truthfully, it will give you temporary relaxation, but you might find yourself in trouble in the future if you don’t build healthy and winning habits now.

Technology has brought so much innovation in terms of entertaining and bringing people from every part of the globe. However, gadgets should be used moderately. Put your focus on things that will serve you well in the future and those that will lead you to a better life.

If you pay too much of your attention to the non-existent virtual world, you will miss out on most of the good things real life could offer.

You’re not getting enough sleep

You probably heard this countless times but be reminded once again— a good sleep is important. Sleep is essential for good health. If you’re too occupied streaming your favorite series ’till dawn or busy doing your work to make ends meet, try to re-evaluate your habits. You’re putting your health at risk.

When you don’t get adequate sleep, your body will not be rested enough to do the critical tasks you need to perform.

You spend time with people who don’t promote growth

People who produce negative energy are everywhere, and sometimes, they can be the people closest to you. If you’re stuck hanging out with people who don’t do you good, who suck up your energy, and hindrances your growth, you’re befriending the wrong people.

Although you can make excuses for their attitude, nothing will come good if you stay with people who are not inspiring you to be a better person. Identifying people such kind of people is critical. If you don’t recognize negative people in your life, you might find yourself lost, having all your energy sucked out, and achieving nothing.

Rather than spending your precious time on who won’t do you well, look for people who will contribute to your growth and entire well-being.

You don’t leave your comfort zone

You can never find growth in your comfort zone. That’s for a fact. Though life seems to be stress-free for a while, staying there will probably leave you empty.

Move out of your comfort zone regardless of the fear, and you will experience things you never did before. Some moments might scare you, but some might meet new possibilities.

Don’t be afraid to fail. Even if you fall from once in a while, your personal development will begin if you continue moving forwards out of your shell. Life transition is never and will never be easy. But, if you battle head-on with your fear, you will look back one day, so proud of yourself that you made it.

It’s okay to feel uncomfortable sometimes. It’s okay for things to change. Withdrawing from your comfort zone might leave your knees trembling, but it might also give you rewarding experiences that you will never find in your safe place.

You make no plans for the future

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with living in the “now.” Still, you should acknowledge that tomorrow needs some attention too. If you get too caught up in being in the moment, you might lose golden opportunities for the future.

It’s okay to enjoy life at your own phase but remember not to wander aimlessly. Come to think of it, why was GPS invented? To help people find the right way to their destination and avoid getting lost. This is also the reason why you need to create plans for the future.

Admit it or not, you have a dream— a target destination. And reaching that dream is not impossible. If you map out a plan, you will have something to guide you whenever you are feeling lost. You will have a reminder of the place where you are heading to.

To be successful, don’t just daydream of your aspiration— formulate a plan and work for it.

You misspend your money

Spending money on random items has always been a temptation that people should break off from.

Let’s face it: We often desire things that we don’t have, thinking that it will make life a bit better. But believe me, they don’t. Even if you spend thousands of dollars buying unnecessary things, you will never be contented. You are wasting your life if you aim to catch up with all trends on social media.

There are several ways to validate self-worth than spending on things you think give you more value. Instead of misspending your money on worthless things, learn how to save and invest for your future convenience.

You complain too much

One thing is for sure— complaining doesn’t change things. Surely, life gets too overwhelming sometimes, but you will remain stuck if you keep whining without taking action.

Do you have to complain about your low salary? Improve your skillset, gain the favor of your boss, and grab that promotion. Or you can quit your job and look for something that pays more. Do you have a complaint about your partner? Have a little conversation. Do you have complaints about your life? Work it out.

Things will never change, even if you spend all day complaining about it. Have a positive outlook despite the shortcomings, learn to embrace all those deficiencies, and take action on things you can improve.

Life may seem unfair to you sometimes but whining and stressing yourself will not make it fair.

You don’t spare some of your time to read

Reading will equip you with the knowledge that will drive you to do greater things in life. According to studies, reading improves vocabulary, establishes good communication skills, and raises self-esteem.

If you’re staying away from books, then you’re turning your back on success.

You live to work

Keep this in mind: You are not living to work. There’s more to life than just earning money to make ends meet.

Don’t forget to take a break from your hectic schedule to wander around, get to know yourself more, and try out new activities you’ve never tried before.

Never be too consumed by your job and deprive yourself of enjoyment. Make sure to build beautiful memories that you can reminisce about when you grow old.
