Gina Rineheart
According to figures collated by Guardian Australia, mining billionaire Gina Rinehart is Australia’s largest landowner, owning more than 9.2 million hectares, or 1.2 % of the country’s total area.
When the land she controls through three distinct corporations is merged, Rinehart leaps to the top of the list. The region she controls is around 40% larger than the company that ranks first on a standalone basis, the Australian Agricultural Co., which is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange.
What kind of land does she own?
Rinehart’s massive property holding is poised to shrink after she put eight cattle ranches up for sale in March, totaling 1.9 million hectares. The properties, which together operate 108,000 cattle, are spread over WA’s Kimberley area and the top of the Northern Territory.
Joe Lewis
Joe Lewis is the owner of the Tavistock Group, which has over 200 assets in 13 countries. Lewis owns Tottenham Hotspur of the London Premier League and has an interest in Mitchells & Butlers of the United Kingdom through Tavistock.
